Little World War (UA, GE)
This play is supported by Fritt Ord!
When Russia bombed and occupied Kharkiv, the Ukrainian part of the Wheels Theatre Company fled. After a long and arduous journey, they reached their colleagues in Berlin. They are still on the run and now come to Oslo Fringe with a performance about precisely the escape, the war, and Europe's future, as seen from Ukraine.
Maria Vanieieva and Olha Kryvosheieva are actresses of the State Theater "Pushkin" in Kharkiv and lecturers in acting at the National University of Arts in Kharkiv.
At the end of February, the artists fled to Berlin and since their arrival they have been working on the performance "Little World War", in which they deal with their experiences while fleeing Ukraine in an informative, moving, musical and sometimes even humorous way. Since the beginning of April they have been supported by their Pushkin Theater colleagues and partners Andrii Vanieiev and Oleksandr Kryvosheiev, who add their own material to the performance. The war of aggression is just as much a topic as flight, what is left behind, arriving and talking to friends and family in Russia.
The performance in English and Ukrainian lasts 60-70 minutes, is constantly being developed and framed by a short introduction and a subsequent round of questions and answers. The pieces of music and the scenic setting of the performance also guarantee an experience for people with little knowledge of English. A musical evening that combines physical theater with multilingual testimonials, poetry and satire.
