Salen i Pyramiden er halvfull, men forventningsfull i det lyset slukkes og de to aktørene fra Guava Palava Arts går på scenen. Premisset for forestillingen er gøy i seg selv – den veldig høye damen Cindy og den bittelille mannen Lionel finner kjærligheten i en heteronormativ og dømmende verden. Publikum har blitt lovet en romantisk komedie full av dristig humor, absurde hendelser, drag og musikk.  

Historien blir i all hovedsak fortalt gjennom fysisk spill med innslag av voice-overs, miming til kjente sanger og et par replikker på «gibberish». Elementene hentet fra drag, den overdrevne slapsticken og den seksuelle humoren gjør den søte historien lettbeint og leken. Enkelte innslag i forestillingen er hysterisk morsomme. Den syngende baguetten, den erotiske melkingen av Cindys løspupper og en storslått og fuktig fødsel, får publikum til å le høyt og hjertelig. 

De sjarmerende karakterene Lionel og Cindy leker med publikum, men til en noe variert respons. Da forestillingen baserer seg mye på fysisk spill og lydspor er det skuffende når timingen og spillet ofte fremstår litt upresist og slurvete. At lydmiksen er ujevn i volum, med lav musikk og sprengt voiceover, setter også dessverre en brems på lipsync-numrene og poenger som helt sikkert kunne vært både underholdene og smarte.  

«Lionel and Cindy» lover dristig humor og samfunnskritikk, men klarer dessverre ikke å overbevise publikum helt. I ettertid sitter jeg igjen med en følelse av å ha sett en 45 minutter lang, halvgod revysketsj. Humoren er absolutt til stede i forestillingen, men det er mye lunken respons mellom de gode poengene og latterkulene.

The hall in Pyramiden is about half-full, but full of anticipation as the lights go out and the two actors from Guava Palava Arts enter the stage. The premise of the show itself is fun – the tall lady, Cindy and the tiny man, Lionel find love in a heteronormative and judgmental world. The audience has been promised a romantic comedy full of bold humor, absurd events, drag and music.

The story is mainly told through physical play, with elements of voice-overs, lip syncing to well-known songs, and a couple of lines in "gibberish". The elements taken from drag, the exaggerated slapstick and the sexual humor make the sweet story lighthearted and playful. Some aspects of the show are hysterically funny. The singing baguette, the erotic milking of Cindy's fake breasts and a magnificent and moist birth, make the audience laugh out loud and heartily.

The charming characters Lionel and Cindy play with the audience, but to a somewhat varied response. As the performance is based on a lot of physical play and soundtrack, it is disappointing when the timing and play often appear somewhat imprecise and sloppy. The fact that the sound mix is ​​uneven in volume, with low music and blasted voice-over, also unfortunately puts a damper on the lip sync numbers and points that certainly could be both entertaining and clever.

"Lionel and Cindy" promises bold humor and social criticism, but unfortunately fails to fully convince the audience. In retrospect, I am left with the feeling of having watched a 45-minute long, half-decent comedy-sketch. The humor is certainly present in the show, but there is a lot of lukewarm response between the good points and the laughs.
